Nowadays, data networks are #multiservice, as they carry all data services over a single network. This project focuses on the study and application of MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) Traffic Engineering to a sample network topology for multiservice telecommunications operators in our country. Specifically, it emphasizes the description of MPLS/TE (Traffic Engineering) concepts, as well as the foundational concepts required to understand how MPLS/TE works. A sample network topology is proposed with characteristics that reflect a national context, allowing for its implementation and configuration in a virtual environment using the #GNS3 network emulator.

To apply MPLS/TE to the sample topology, two network scenarios are proposed. The first scenario involves no network events and demonstrates the optimization of network resources using dynamic and static traffic engineering tunnels. The second scenario includes network events, such as the failure of core links in the proposed network.

Finally, in the second scenario, MPLS/TE Fast Reroute (FRR) was configured on critical traffic engineering tunnels that carry real-time sensitive data, in order to enable rapid switchover to #backup tunnels in the event of unexpected incidents such as #FiberOptic cuts.

Lastly, to provide a better understanding of the application of Traffic Engineering, a comparison was made between the use of basic frame-mode #MPLS, MPLS/TE, and MPLS/TE/FRR.

Keywords: Multiservice, MPLS, TE, FRR, GNS3, backup, IP
